by Mark Green

Ever wonder when will they ever invent foods that taste great and yet have less calorie filling? Well, worry not because Mother Nature herself has some special fruits and vegetables for us! Experts say there are two fruit and vegetable groups that can be considered as superfoods that efficiently keep hunger away, filling your tummy without stacking up calories. The nutrient that gives the first group of fruits and vegetables that staying power in the tummy is fiber. Behind the second group of foods is protein. More researchers than ever support the idea that protein may help to keep our appetite under control. Protein also contributes to better endurance and stamina, while slightly increasing your metabolism rate. A last thing to remember: think before you start snapping up your favorite protein-rich food (even if it's a lean cut), because knowing the ways of your own body, anything beyond what is essentially needed may end up as weight gained.

Below are protein and fiber-based superfoods you may want to keep a tab on:

Green Tea - Scientists argue that the catechins in green tea may be the important stimulant that induces the body to burn calories and mildly decrease body fat. Other pro's for toasting somebody else with hot cups or tall cold glasses are green tea's anti-cancer and toxin ejecting properties. Beef-, pork-, or chicken-broth or tomato-based soup - Soups can help reduce hunger before meals and increase your feeling of fullness. Plus points if you choose tomato because it contains lycopene, an anti-oxidant that fight cancer.

Reducing calories and weight loss - Low-calorie green salads - To get ahead of the temptation to eat a lot at the main course, have a safe low-calorie salad first (which means literally keeping clear of the icing, e.g. croutons, high fat dressings, and cheese). Soon in your main course, you will feel lesser urge to eat much of the viand. Probably the vegetables' high fiber content account for the diner's ability to fight cravings.

Yogurt - Dairy products, e.g. "live" bacteria-rich light yogurt, as part of your healthy diet may promote your weight loss efforts due to their protein and carbohydrate content.

Beans - A mainstay of superfoods and organic foods diet, beans have a great combination of fiber and protein, and because of this may work to discipline your between-meal appetite.

Water - Aside from efficiently filling up our stomachs, water is our body's ever-reliable remover of unwanted waste products. One of those rare drinks that do not rely on processed additives, its many forms vary in the market, from unsweetened tea, to flavored sugar-free mineral water, to regular water with lime or lemon.

High-Fiber, Whole-Grain Cereal - Another superfood mainstay aside from beans, whole grains do wonders to our meals and to its nutritional content. Have a bowl of fiber whole-grain cereal as breakfast or a snack today!
